This review is for the 3.0 extra chrome links I got, as well as the prong collar (18", 3.0 mm links). I have a 40-ish pound 5 month old lab, who is clearly NOT going to stay 40-ish pounds. The trainer in the class I am taking recommended Katie's Buckles. I ended up getting the prong collar I referenced; a small biothane backup; and extra links.
I must say, I am really pleased with the quality of all items. However, I did have trouble figuring out what size to get my puppy. The sizing guide really didn't help me much, since clearly I will have a pup that will be greater than 88 pounds and less than 154 pounds. I also wasn't sure of the length, since his neck is already 14", and adding 2" gets me to 16"; which seems too small once he is full grown. I opted for the 18" collar, thinking I could remove some prongs initially, and then add some (hence my buying extras) in the future as he becomes full grown. (Adding and taking off links is pretty straight forward, but here too, some guidance would have helped me.)
All of that to say...I was a bit confused about how best to size the collar; a bit confused on how to use the backup leash; and frankly, not sure how to actually use the collar properly. For me then, some simple instructions and/or pictures (which I was forwarded for use of the backup leash), would be a huge help.
Now, as for the quality...I am thrilled. The idea of a prong collar that DOES NOT go on over his head; but rather, is buckled, is a great idea. At this point, my puppy waits for me to buckle the prong collar on and put on the backup leash, and off we go. Easy peasy!! And taking it off after adventures in the woods is just as easy; you just squeeze the latch, and it comes right off.
So I really think what I got is very good, and I'm glad I got it. For me though, a little more help with sizing and how best to actually use the stuff would have been nice. Still, there are probably more people who know more than I, so it may be less of an issue for others.
